The Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, begin another major international campaign on Friday, 9 October 2026, when they host Zimbabwe at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe in the first leg of their African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Before Tabitha Chaŵinga could become one of the most dangerous forwards in European football, Malawi first had to enter a competition it had never touched. Three seasons later, she has been a semi-finalist, a finalist, one of UEFA’s best forwards and repeatedly one of the fastest players on the pitch. The trophy is the one thing still missing.
The Chaŵinga story reaches far beyond football. It is a story of two sisters, a family, a country, and what becomes possible when extraordinary talent refuses to be contained.
